Ismael Sequeira

Painter and connoisseur of Art, SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE

He began painting as a young man, at the age of 13, attending an exhibition commemorating the country's independence anniversary. In 1982 he met Pina Protásio and Cesaltino da Fonseca, exponents of art in São Tomé and Príncipe at the time. Influenced by Protásio Pina, he began to paint in oil. He later worked with Korean masters in stage painting and framing for human entertaining and outdoor games.

In addition to his curriculum of individual exhibitions held in the country, he participated in many exhibitions abroad. He has collaborated in several cultural projects, in partnership with several organizations in São Tomé. Headquartered in Portugal, Ismael works in the fields of plastic arts, museological research and multimedia product development.

He is one of the founders of the Cafuka Platform, a cultural association whose main objective is to generate an artistic movement capable of influencing all creative disciplines in São Tomé and Príncipe and in the Portuguese-speaking world.

Sofia Borges

Visual artist and researcher, PORTUGAL

Sofia Borges is a researcher and visual artist. She works in relation to specific locals and communities, politic and representation in art installation, public space and film. She studied Painting and Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon and ArCo. She received her M.F.A. in Curatorial Studies(Lisbon University/Gulbenkian Fundation), where she focused on the collaborative process in the visual arts and film.

She coordinated and performed research, documentation and artistic projects, involving the local residents and other disciplines: visual arts, film, anthropology and botany. With this context, the selected projects are: “The Party is Over”(2006-2009), “Vitory Gardens Collection”(2013-2015), “Open Sky (mining)”(2016-2017) and “Maxamba”(2015) co-directed with Suzanne Barnard (USA), film awarded by Indie Lisbon-International Independent Film Festival (Portugal), Extrema Doc(Spain) and Myart(Italy). These projects are supported by AFRICA.cont, Duquesne University(USA); Gulbenkian Foundation; Ministry of Culture and others. She currently is colaborating with R.C.Q.L.

Luís Oliveira Santos

Filmmaker, PORTUGAL

Luís Oliveira Santos, was born in 1965. He graduated from the Faculty of Archeology at the University of Porto. In the 80's he worked as a journalist and as a photo reporter, collaborator of Radio Nova and Diário de Notícias. He graduated in Visual Arts Teaching at the University of Aveiro and is a lecturer in visual arts and photography disciplines at elementary school.
He completed his master's degree in Contemporary Artistic Creation at the Communication and Art Department of the University of Aveiro.

He was a co-orientating professor in the Masters in Teaching Visual Arts at the University of Aveiro. He has done several photography work. In 2012, he wrote and edited the short documentary The Light of the Ancient Land, from the book Light and Sound, by Duarte Belo, a film co-produced by the filmmaker. In 2013, the film was nominated for the Sophia Awards, of the Portuguese Academy of Cinema, in the quality of best short documentary.
In 2014 he made the short documentary film Platinum Palladium Printing with Leica M Monochrom, only displayed on the web, obtaining so far more than 200 thousand views.

Afonso Januário

Filmmaker, SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE

Afonso Januário, was born on September 30, 1963, São Marçal, S.Tomé, a native of Fátima - Distrito de Mé-Zochi, in 2006 training documentary cinema - Portugal, 2007 training documentary cinema - Scotland, 2016 finished Degree in Law - S.Tomé, 2001, held the film "Imprudence-Fire of the erase of life, tragedy type, 75', 2006, held the film "Your Love My Smile", drama type, 55', 2007, made a mini series of six episodes "Those who have AIDS are the same as those who do not have", 2008, made the documentary "Carrier of dreams", 27 ', 2012, made the film "Avesso da Vida", drama type, 46', 2015, won the competition CPLP Audiovisual in the category FICTV with the project of adaptation of the literary work "Rosa do Riboque" Albertino Bragança.

He currently serves as a member of the management committee of Culture house in São Tomé.

Frederike Migom

Filmmaker, BELGIUM

Frederike Migom is a director, writer and actor. After studying drama and working in New York she moved to Paris to study filmmaking, working on various projects in Paris and abroad.

In 2011 she landed in Brussels, her current base, where she worked as an assistant producer for 3 years at Caviar Films, before setting out to direct her first short film, Malakim, in 2013. Malakim was followed by Adam & Everything (2014) and Nkosi Coiffure (2015).

The latter was supported by the Flemish audiovisual fund (VAF) and has screened at Tribeca and BFI among many other film festivals, winning awards in Valladolid, Washington and Brussels.

Also with the support of the Flemish Audiovisual Fund, Frederike went on to direct a short documentary, Si-G, currently screening at festivals all over the world. Frederike just finished shooting her first feature film, Binti, currently in post production, and to be released in 2019.

Anabela Oliveira

Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, PORTUGAL

Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and researcher at Labcom. PhD in Comparative Literature, directs her scientific research in the context of interdisciplinary studies, namely in the relations between literature and cinema, literature and architecture and also in the cinematography of Manoel de Oliveira, Fellini and Jacques Tati. She teaches several seminars in the context of the analysis of the filmic discourse and the dialogical relations between cinema and other arts. Author of the course "Cinema: Alquimia das Artes" at the Serralves Foundation (Porto, 2009). It has papers presented in multiple colloquiums and publications in national and international journals. Invited lectures at the universities of Paris III, Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, Utrecht, Warsaw, Lublin and Gdansk on the contemporary Portuguese novel (60-90) and Portuguese cinema. Participation in juries and workshops at festivals and film school shows (Avanca, MIFEC, Ourense Film Festival, Festfilm-Montpellier, Cinanima, São Tomé Fest Film, Arroios Film Festival) and national ICA juries (2014, 2016 and 2017). Director of RIOS - International Documentary and Transmedia Film Festival. She belongs to the editorial board of the online journals International Journal of Cinema, Estrema, Plural / Pluriel, Persona and Cygne Noir, revue d'exploration sémiotique (Université du Québec à Montréal)

Bruno Carnide

Filmmaker, PORTUGAL

Bruno Carnide (June 16, 1987, Leiria - Portugal), graduated in Sound and Image – by the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha - is an independent director since 2008, and founding director of the International Short Film Festival, «Leiria Film Fest», since 2013.

Carnide directed several fiction and documentary short films, which won dozen awards and have been exhibited in more than 100 film festivals around the world. Working currently as a freelancer, Bruno Carnide has directed hundreds of corporate, advertising and music videos, and is, teacher in the field of cinema in Polytechnic of Leiria (Portugal).

Yusuf BAHAR

Filmmaker, TURKEY

As one of the founding members of KATADROM Arts, Culture and Social Politics Association, Yusuf BAHAR has taken roles in numerous film festivals and art projects since 2006. Continuing to create various contents for screenings and film festivals, he is also the concept developer and festival coordinator of Changing Perspectives Film Festival. After studying cinema in Istanbul’s prestigious Mimar Sinan Fine Arts academy, Yusuf Bahar has kept on working in the filmmaking industry for over 10 years. He is currently working with the Malatya International Film Festival as the International Programme Coordinator.

Umbelino Brasil

This Documentary filmmaker made the films "The mother" (Special Prize in the Festival of Gramado, 1998). "Fights and Lives" (1983) and "What I tell from the wilderness is this ..." (JB / Shell Festival Best Film Award, 1979).

Alfonso Palazón Meseguer

Professor of Communication Studies, SPAIN

Alfonso Palazón Meseguer. Doctor and Bachelor of Information Sciences by the Complutense University. International Prize Aurelio Paz dos Reis 2016. Professor of Audiovisual Communication at the Faculty of Sciences of the Communication from the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC).

Directs the Official Master in Documentary and New formats in the URJC. He has worked on different projects audiovisual as a filmmaker, producer and screenwriter. Standing out as a screenwriter and director in the following documentaries: Senegal. Notes of a trip, 2007; Sunuy Aduna (Our lives), 2009; 20 years giving life to the days, 2012.

The documentary feature film When listening to the wind (2013) is his first production of the one who has been a scriptwriter and director; was selected for competition at the Festival International of Valladolid 2013, in the International Festival of Avanca 2014 (Portugal), and 6 other festivals.

Audience Award for the Best Film Festival of Cinema CineLow 2014. Prize 'Nadar contra corriente' at the Festival International Rivers 2014 (Vila-Real, Portugal). Second Albert Jovell Award 2017. Since 2013 he has developed the transmedia project La primavera as co-producer pink. A transmedia project on the rights of the LGBT community. Is the First documentarybook in Spanish. The Pink Spring in the Kremlin is between the ten finalists to the 2016 Goya Awards; and La Primavera Rosa in Mexico is nominated for the Goya 2018 awards.
